A sustainable plan
Premiums support the insurance protection and policy value. Insurance charges and other expenses are deducted; the amount you pay is not the same as the amount immediately available in cash value.
INDEXED UNIVERSAL LIFE · WEALTH & LEGACY PLANNING
Indexed universal life insurance can combine a death benefit with the potential to build cash value over time. For the right family or business owner, it can be one part of a long-term wealth and legacy strategy.
Let’s talk about your coveragePROTECTION FIRST. POSSIBILITIES OVER TIME.
You’ve put years into your land, your business and your family. The next conversation is about what you want that work to make possible.
IUL is permanent life insurance with potential cash-value accumulation. When appropriately structured, funded and maintained, it may support family protection, access to policy value during life and a financial legacy for beneficiaries.
We start with the death benefit you need, the guarantees built into the policy and a funding plan you can sustain. We’ll review how its guaranteed minimum interest-crediting provisions and growth opportunities fit alongside your other assets.
HOW THE POLICY CAN BUILD VALUE
Premiums support the insurance protection and policy value. Insurance charges and other expenses are deducted; the amount you pay is not the same as the amount immediately available in cash value.
Indexed accounts combine index-based interest opportunities with a guaranteed minimum crediting floor. Caps, participation rates, spreads and other terms affect credits. The policy does not invest directly in the index; the contract specifies the minimum crediting rate and how it applies.
We review contractual guarantees alongside current illustrated assumptions, policy costs and your changing goals. Ongoing reviews track funding, interest credits, charges and loans, including whether additional premiums are needed to maintain coverage.
CONTRACTUAL GUARANTEES · A CLEARER PICTURE
The indexed account’s floor protects the interest-crediting calculation from negative index performance. The policy states the minimum rate and the period and conditions under which it applies.
We’ll show you the contractual minimum interest rates or values, explain the available crediting options and review how the guarantees support your protection and accumulation goals.
A guaranteed crediting rate applies to interest under the contract. It is different from a guarantee that your net cash or surrender value will increase by that rate each year.
Insurance and policy charges, loans, loan interest and withdrawals can reduce policy values. Surrender charges can also affect the amount available if you exit the policy.
We’ll review those costs alongside the guaranteed values and current illustrations so you can see how the policy works as a whole. Guarantees depend on the contract’s conditions and the issuing insurer’s claims-paying ability.
POTENTIAL FEDERAL INCOME-TAX ADVANTAGES
The benefits below depend on the contract qualifying as life insurance, how it is funded and used, and your circumstances.
Growth within a qualifying life insurance contract generally is not taxed as it is credited. That can allow policy value to accumulate without an annual federal income-tax bill on those internal credits.
Life insurance death benefits paid because of the insured’s death generally are excluded from beneficiaries’ federal gross income. Exceptions apply; interest paid on proceeds can be taxable.
For a policy that is not a modified endowment contract, withdrawals up to remaining tax basis and policy loans may be received without current federal income tax when applicable requirements are met. Additional rules can apply, particularly to early benefit reductions.
We’ll coordinate with your CPA and estate-planning attorney on ownership, beneficiaries, funding and access. Tax treatment depends on your situation and can change.
WHAT LEGACY CAN MEAN FOR A FARM FAMILY
Life insurance can help create liquidity when much of a family’s wealth is tied up in land, buildings or a closely held business.
A death benefit may help your family replace income, address debts or meet obligations after your death.
In a plan developed with your advisors, life insurance may provide funds for transition costs or help balance inheritances when one heir takes over an operation and another does not.
If sufficient cash value develops, properly managed policy access may help supplement future cash needs. It must be weighed against loan costs, taxes and the effect on coverage.
Beneficiaries receive the death benefit determined by the policy and selected option, reduced by applicable policy debt. Cash value is not automatically paid as an additional, separate inheritance.
A CONVERSATION ABOUT YOUR AVAILABLE DOLLARS
If an insurance review identifies actual premium savings, we can discuss whether using part of your available budget for long-term life insurance fits your protection needs and cash flow. An IUL policy requires its own suitability and funding review.
We’ll evaluate the policy’s contractual guarantees, crediting options and funding requirements in the context of your long-term goals and available budget.
